Abstract The original species description of the sea anemone Epiactis thompsoni was published in 1875. The often used spelling "thomsoni" and publication date 1874 are incorrect. Three specimens of Epiactis mortenseni found at Kaikoura are the first recorded on the mainland of New Zealand.
