Abstract The amino-acid compositions of juvenile Galaxias maculatus (Jenyns) ('whitebait'), eel, and fishmeal were essentially similar, having relatively large quantities of glutamic and aspartic acids and low quantities of cystine and histidine. The major fatty acids were 22:6, 16:0, 20:5, 18:1, 18:0, and 16:1, a profile which was indicative of a 'marine' lipid.
