Non-toxic blooms of Prorocentrum micans (Dinophyceae) in the Karamea Bight

Abstract Dense phytoplankton blooms of the thecate dinoflagellate Prorocentrum micans Ehren-berg causing brown discoloration of the water occurred off Westport in March 1976 and March 1978. No toxic effects are known to have resulted from these blooms.
