Abstract This kind of book is much needed by secondary school and university teachers but few have been written for them — I cannot think of one covering specifically the seashore habitat. Practical work is the most difficult part of a course to design, especially if the exercises are to complement the theory and actually work when done by the students. In comparison, lectures and lessons are much easier to prepare. Morton Jenkins' book provides a set of practical exercises for the study of seashore life which have been designed specially for students doing Advanced Level Biology (England and Wales), though I feel that many of the exercises are suitable for an introductory course at university.
