Abstract In a recent study (Wells 1985) on the occurrence and distribution of species of agglutinated fora-minifera (suborder Textulariina) in recent sediments of Wellington Harbour, New Zealand, the new species Reophax cylindricus Wells was described and illustrated. It has since come to my attention (M. Michie, pers. comm. 1986) that this specific name is preoccupied by Reophax cylindricus Brady from the South Pacific (Brady 1884).
