Abstract Two new species of macrourid fishes of the genus
Coryphaenoides from New Zealand are described. Coryphaenoides
dossenus n. sp. is widespread on the continental slope at 480-1464 m
and shows sexual dimorphism with the largest male about half the length of the
largest female. It is also known from the Tasman Sea, Coral Sea, Indian Ocean,
and the eastern side of the Atlantic Ocean south of c. 6[[ordmasculine]] S.
Coryphaenoides microstomus n. sp. is known only from four specimens
collected from a single station at 1550-1720 m off the east coast of the
North Island, New Zealand.
