Abstract  Nirmus paludicola Kellogg and Kuwana, 1902, now Quadraceps paludicola (Kellogg and Kuwana, 1902), is proposed as a senior synonym of Quadraceps ernstmayri Timmermann, 1952 (new synonymy). The host-louse association between Q. paludicola and its type host, Butorides sundevalli (Reichenow, 1877), is discussed and deduced to be erroneous. The swallow-tailed gull, Creagrus furcatus (Néboux, 1842), from the Galápagos Islands is regarded as the regular host for Q. paludicola and is also the type host of Q. ernstmayri. Eight further species and subspecies of Quadraceps are reported from the Galápagos Islands for the first time, and are included in an annotated checklist together with all Quadraceps taxa previously known from those islands.
