Abstract  Although there are currently over 20 species of Hydrobiosis known as adults from mainland New Zealand, only the larvae of eight species have been previously described. This paper describes and figures the larva of Hydrobiosis gollanis Mosely, distinguishable from that of other Hydrobiosis species in the Umbripennis Group by its characteristic pigmentation of the head capsule and pronotum, and its small size. H. gollanis prefers small stable streams and is widespread through the North Island of New Zealand while mostly restricted to the west coast of the South Island.
