Accidental importation of an Australian bat (Mammalia: Chiroptera: Vespadelus vulturnus) into New Zealand

Abstract  An adult little forest bat of unknown sex (Vespadelus vulturnus: Vespertilionidae) was found dead in a shipping container sent from Melbourne to Christchurch Airport, in September 1997. This is the third known record of an exotic bat being imported into New Zealand since 1982.
