Abstract The aleocharine fauna of the Three Kings Islands,
New Zealand, according to the current state of knowledge, comprises Aleochara
watti Klimaszewski 1997, Atheta kingorum n. sp., Myllaena intermedia
Erichson 1837, Neodoxa secreta (Cameron 1950) new combination, ‘Ocalea’
zelandica n. sp., and Pseudopisalia turbotti Cameron 1950. All
species are probably endemic to the islands, with the exception of the Palaearctic
M. intermedia, which is herein reported from the Three Kings Islands
for the first time. Neodoxa new name is proposed as a replacement
name for the junior homonym Heterodoxa Cameron 1950 (not Malloch 1932).
Lectotypes are designated for the following (original combinations in parentheses):
Neodoxa secreta (Cameron 1950) (Heterodoxa), Pseudopisalia turbotti
Cameron 1950, as well as for the following four nominal species from the
New Zealand mainland: Atheta brouni (Bernhauer and Scheerpeltz, 1926)
(replacement name for A. atriceps (Broun 1880) (Gyrophaena),
‘Ocalea’ socialis (Broun 1880) (Gyrophaena) (= crepera
Broun 1894, new synonymy), and ‘O.’ fungicola (Broun 1894)
(Calodera). All six species of Aleocharinae from the Three Kings Islands
are redescribed, a key is provided, and their affinities are discussed.
