Abstract  Nothotrichocera johnsi, n. sp., is described from the South Island of New Zealand. This is the first record of this genus from the New Zealand mainland. N. johnsi belongs to the antarctica group of species, until now known only from Campbell and Auckland Islands, although there is a related species in Patagonia. The distribution of the 12 species of this genus is an example of the ancient biogeographic links around the Southern Hemisphere. The generic name Adura Malaise 1941, in the subfamily Paracladurinae (Trichoceridae), is preoccupied; the replacement name Asdura is proposed.

Keywords  Nothotrichocera; Adura; Asdura; new species; new combination; replacement name; Trichoceridae; Paracladurinae; New Zealand
