This email is the first announcement of the next Sustainable Development Forum to be held on Friday April 11th, 2003 at the Royal Society, Wellington.

If you wish to attend please let us know as soon as possible by email to kath.evans@rsnz.org

If you or your organization is attending a Forum meeting for the first time, please send a brief outline of your organization and its interest in sustainable development.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT FORUM MEETING

WELLINGTON, FRIDAY APRIL 11TH 2003

VENUE: Royal Society of New Zealand, 4 Halswell Street, Thorndon, Wellington

TIME: 9.30am to 4.00pm

SPONSOR: Royal Society of New Zealand

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this forum meeting is to:

  • Update groups on Government policies and actions on sustainable development.
  • Determine the structure and function of the Sustainable Development Forum.
  • Discuss the formation of a Sustainable Development Council.

Briefing papers on these issues will be distributed to registered participants before the meeting.

AGENDA:

  1. Introduction (Jim Salinger)
    1. Summary of past forum events
    2. Objectives of this meeting
  2. Update on activities and events since the November 2002 Forum meeting. (George Hooper)
  3. Setting up a website for the Forum. (Richard Benton)
  4. Government policy on sustainable development. (TBA)
  5. Local Government Act 2002 – impacts on sustainable development (TBA)
  6. Response to Government policy and actions from Forum Steering Group (John Peet)
  7. Structure and functions of the Forum (Carol Boyle)
    1. Structure, functions and ongoing management of the SD Forum.
    2. Formation of a Sustainable Development Council.

Lastly, we are very conscious that we have not a full set of potential stakeholders on our mailing list. Would you please forward the message to other New Zealand groups who might be interested in being a member of the Forum and in the formation of a National Council (or Advisory Body) for Sustainable Development.
